What is Trikuta Parvat?

Trikuta Parvat is a sacred mountain range of the Himalayas located in Reasi district of Jammu & Kashmir. The famous Bhawan and Holy Cave of Mata Vaishno Devi are situated on this mountain. The name "Trikuta" means "Three Peaks" — referring to the three main peaks of this mountain.

Mythological Significance of Trikuta Parvat

According to the Puranas, Trikuta Parvat is the place where Mata Vaishno Devi sought refuge from Bhairav Nath and took shelter in the cave. Mata performed penance here for 9 months and ultimately slayed Bhairav Nath, granting him moksha. From here, Mata made Trikuta Parvat her permanent abode.

The Puranas mention that Goddess Bhagwati performed her childhood divine plays here in the Treta Yuga. Ram came here for Mata's darshan before the Lanka victory and Mata blessed him with victory.

Climate of Trikuta Parvat

Due to the altitude of 5,200 ft, the climate of Trikuta Parvat is different from Katra. Even in summers, cool breezes blow here. Snowfall occurs in winters.
