Ideal Yatra Route for Senior Citizens
We recommend senior pilgrims use a combination of helicopter + battery car. This is the least tiring and safest route:
1
Katra → Helipad (Taxi — 5 min)
Reach Katra helipad by taxi from hotel or bus stand.
2
🚁 Helicopter — Katra → Sanjichhat (5 min, 5,100 ft)
Beautiful flight. View of Katra and mountains below.
3
🚗 Battery Car — Sanjichhat → Bhawan (2 km)
Battery car or palki from Sanjichhat to Bhawan. Some walking required but path is paved and clean.
4
🙏 Bhawan — Mata Rani's Darshan
Darshan of all three Pindies inside the cave. VIP darshan pass available for seniors.
5
🔥 Bhairav Nath Temple (Optional — 2.5 km up)
This is a tiring route. Elderly may skip this unless health is good.
6
🚁 Return — Sanjichhat → Katra (Helicopter)
Return by helicopter or foot. Going down puts pressure on knees — helicopter better for elderly.
Health Precautions & Tips
Before Yatra (At Home)
- Visit your doctor: Get a full check-up 1-2 weeks before the yatra.
- Heart patients: ECG and cardiologist advice essential. Heart works harder at altitude.
- BP patients: Check BP regularly during yatra. BP can rise at altitude.
- Diabetics: Pack insulin or medicines properly. Do not change meal times.
- Knee problems: Wear knee support/bandage and carry a knee cap.
- Breathing difficulty: Always carry your asthma inhaler.
Essential Medicines to Carry
Diamox (for altitude sickness)
Sorbitrate (for chest pain)
Dolo 650 (for fever/pain)
Avomine (for nausea/vomiting)
ORS powder (for dehydration)
Betadine (for cuts/wounds)
Precautions During Yatra
- Walk slowly at altitude: Don't rush. Rest every 30-40 minutes.
- Drink plenty of water: At least one glass per hour. Dehydration happens quickly in mountains.
- Cold weather: Carry warm clothes — temperature drops 5-10°C at night.
- Don't go alone: Always travel with a family member or companion.
- If breathless, stop: This is the effect of altitude. Rest and drink water.
- Light food: Avoid heavy fried food. Porridge, khichdi and fruits are better.

❓ Do senior citizens get a separate queue at Bhawan?
Yes, Shrine Board has special priority queue for 60+ age devotees. Carry your ID and ask Shrine Board staff for assistance.

Children under 2 years don't get a separate seat. All other ages can take the helicopter. Maximum weight limit is usually 100-120 kg.
❓ Do senior citizens have to cross the Ardhkuwari cave?
No. An alternative bypass route (upper path) is available for elderly and differently-abled to avoid the cave. No need to crawl through the cave.

No. Seniors are advised to travel during the day, preferably starting at 6-7 AM. The path can be cold and slippery at night. Go during daytime for proper light and visibility.
