About Katra Town
Katra is a small but holy town located in the foothills of Trikuta Mountain in Reasi district of Jammu & Kashmir. Situated at approximately 2,500 feet above sea level, this town is the base camp for Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra. The distance from here to Bhawan is approximately 14 kilometres.
Katra welcomes more than 10 million devotees every year who come from every corner of the country for Mata Vaishno Devi darshan. The town has more than 500 hotels, dharmshalas, restaurants and shops. Markets remain open till 10 PM.
Katra's climate is pleasant — maximum temperature in summer is 35°C and in winter it can drop to 2-3°C. Heavy rain falls during monsoon (July-September).

Before starting the yatra, getting the RFID Yatra Parchi is mandatory. This is your identity and yatra permission. Without it, you cannot proceed beyond Katra.
